When you create a LinkedIn account, a URL is automatically created for you. It is generally your name with a bunch of numbers after. For example, mine was something like: https://www.linkedin.com/in/laura-blair-44951954/ originally.
If you want to include your LinkedIn URL on your resume or cover letter, the automatic one is rather long and unprofessional. It is quite easy to change your URL to make it personalized and professional. Therefore, we recommend you take a few minutes and complete this simple step.
If you are unsure how to do it, see the step by step directions below.
Note: This process may not work on a mobile app so it is suggested you use the full LinkedIn website. Also, LinkedIn often updates their site so if you are reading this blog in the future, LinkedIn may not display exactly as shown in the images below.
Step 1: Log into your account and find your profile
After you have successfully logged in, look at the top menu bar. In the upper right hand corner you will see your profile photo with the word "me" underneath. You will want to click on your photo. Image 1 below has a red circle showing where to look and what to click on.

Once you have clicked on your photo, a drop down menu will appear. Click on "View Profile" as shown in Image 2 below.

Step 2: Find the edit URL link
Now your profile will appear. In the upper right hand corner, select the "Edit public profile and URL" link as shown in Image 3 below.

Step 3: Click on the edit icon
Again, look to the upper right and you will see a box labelled "Edit your custom URL." You can see what your current URL is. Adjacent to that, you see a small pencil icon as shown in Image 4. Click on that icon to start the editing process.

Step 4: Edit your URL
Now you are able to update your URL. If you have a common name, you may need to add in a middle initial. Someone else may have already selected the base URL for your name. Once you have it set how you like it, you can click save.

Now that your URL is updated, you can easily add it to your resume and cover letter. It will take up less space on those documents and provide a more clean and professional appearance.
