When you hire Revision Resume to help with your resume and/or cover letter, you will gain more than just a document or two. Clients find value in our services, not only because we provide quality writing, but also because we assist each job seeker with the overall job search process and identifying their own unique qualifications.
Conversation and Brainstorming Together
We start with a 15-minute complimentary Zoom session or phone call to understand where you are in your career and in your job search process. This allows us to determine how we can best meet your needs. Often clients find this discussion helps them focus on what they are seeking and what they need. For example, we have had clients who are applying to jobs in multiple different industries, with no success. Through our discussion, they have been able to determine what industry they would like to focus on and recognize that the scatter-shot approach to applying doesn't work.
If a client chooses to do a resume creation with us, we conduct a roughly hour-long Zoom session to collect work and education history. Again, clients tell us the conversation they have with us is beneficial in helping them see how to brand themselves. As we ask questions specific to their situation, they think through how best to present themselves and use that information in future networking opportunities and interviews.
Having a 1-on-1 conversation with Carrie or Laura can be very beneficial for a job seeker who is uncertain about what step to take next. Our experience in the hiring industry allows us to help you hone in on the right direction for moving forward and achieving your goals!
Identifying Your Unique Value
Job seekers often struggle with identifying their unique value, specifically for the job they are seeking. For example, we often encounter clients who want to highlight a skill they have that was crucial for a previous role they held. However, this skill may not be necessary for the new role and therefore would be a "so what" to a hiring manager.
We help clients identify their unique value that is relevant to the position they are applying for. Instead of looking backward, we help them look forward. How should you brand yourself for your future role? Revision Resume provides clients personalized feedback, so you can present yourself as the best possible candidate for the opening.
Often, clients read the resume and/or cover letter we have created for them and are astonished. The original document they created was a hodgepodge: showing their entire history, but not providing a focus on what they can bring to the new position. Clients appreciate that we clearly present the appropriate qualifications and create a document that will allow them to stand out.
How do we do this? We really get to know you and your work experience through evaluating your current resume and/or LinkedIn profile and having a Zoom conversation in which we ask directed questions, allowing us to gain knowledge into what makes you unique.
Not only do you gain a document you are confident submitting to a job posting, but you have a map forward, showing you what you should be highlighting during an interview, or as you network.
Questions You Have About the Hiring Process
Working on your resume on your own robs you of the opportunity to ask questions of someone very familiar with the hiring industry. Each job seeker has their own unique set of circumstances, and therefore will encounter individual questions and concerns as they conduct their job search. Our clients ask us questions before, during, and after we provide them with their career documentation. We encourage them to send us a quick email if they encounter something they are uncertain about.
What seems like a significant challenge for a job seeker is often something we have faced before. Laura and Carrie can offer suggestions regarding a wealth of scenarios, such as:
How to list a company that has changed names over the years
How to handle a job gap
How far back to go in your job history so that you simultaneously show relevant skills, but also are not subject to age discrimination
Regardless of the circumstances, Revision Resume can provide you with guidance!
Motivation
It may seem odd to say, but working with Revision Resume is often a motivating push for a job seeker. We have had a few friends reach out to us, interested in potentially pursuing our services, but not ever actually getting around to it. Months, even years later, when they finally reach out again, they are still stalled at the same point in their job search. They are stuck in a job they aren't happy with, but have no resume or cover letter to use to try to seek something that would be a better fit.
Alternatively, those who have enlisted our services are more likely to be motivated by the process, and therefore make forward progress. This is partly because we prompt advancement by asking clients to provide us with job postings they are interested in, so we can align the career documentation appropriately. Once they find something they think would be a good fit, they are excited and ready to apply.
It is also due to the fact we provide documents that are current, letter-perfect, and ready to be submitted to a job opening. Your new resume is something you will feel proud of and feel confident in. Success suddenly seems possible when you have strong documentation to support your application!
Instead of wasting precious time and struggling on your own, enlist Carrie and Laura to help you with your job search! Ready to leverage the benefits of working with Revision Resume during your career transition? Contact us today to get started!
